Greyhound

Recipe on liquor.com.
I went down a rabbit hole of dog-themed drinks while researching this. The Greyhound is just grapefruit juice and gin or vodka, on ice. (It used to be a gin drink before vodka became popular in the US in the 1940s, now it’s mostly a vodka drink.)
What I have here is a Whippet. A friend suggested that I make a Greyhound and put it in a smaller glass and call it a Whippet 😂, but I learned that there are Whippet recipes out there already. They vary WIDELY. This drink is just a Greyhound with some tonic and a squeeze of lime, one of the recipes I found.
Other dog-themed variations:
Salty dog: a Greyhound with a salted rim
Dalmatian: a Greyhound with black pepper syrup
Italian Greyhound: a Greyhound with Campari
Something else I learned with this drink – I like grapefruit juice! I’ve had it in my head my whole life that I didn’t like it. But it’s one of those bitter foods that I had to try again as an adult to appreciate. Or maybe I just like it when vodka is added.
